A 4th grade teacher in Los Alamitos Unified School District in California shared a math fact fluency bulletin board she made for her class inspired by a hot air balloon theme. Students’ photos, posed to look like they’re hanging from balloon strings, pass from level to level on the board as their fluency increases in Reflex.
Every year she has students come to her not fluent with their math facts, and it can make teaching the 4th grade curriculum difficult. When she first heard about Reflex, she thought it “would be a great way to get my students motivated, since the flashcards and timed tests were not as successful as we’d hoped. When my class started Reflex, they fell in love!”
In just 2 months, her class went from 30% fluent to 68% fluent on Reflex, and she had 2 students who reached 100% fluency (and more who are close). She has also seen the students’ fluency “transfer to their work.” Students tell her excitedly, “I used to not know this fact, and now I know it!”
