Getting Started with ExploreLearning Gizmos
Step 1- Make sure your computer has the proper plugins: Gizmos require an up to date Adobe Flash and Shockwave Player. Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari are the recommended browsers. To run a system test to check your software, click here and then click on “Run System Test”. This will run a diagnostic to check your software. If you do not get all green check marks, update your computer software per the instructions on the screen. This “System Test Page” can be accesses by scrolling to the bottom of any page of www.explorelearning.com and clicking on “System Test Page”.
Step 2- Set up an Account: If you haven’t already done so, create your Gizmo Account. If you already have an account, please click “Login” in the upper right hand corner of www.explorelearning.com
Create a new account by going to: www.explorelearning.com/register
Enter your school’s registration key (High School Teachers – see your department chair for your unique school registration key or email Aron Fristoe at aron.fristoe@explorelearning.com if your department chair does not have the registration key.
Follow the on screen instructions for creating an account. Note- teachers and students have accounts all over the United States and the world, so it’s possible what you would like to use for a username is taken. If so, try something else.
Step 3- Set Up Your Homepage: Once your account is created, you will be at your “Me Page”. Here you will set up Class Tabs for each of your classes and add Gizmos to the Class Tabs for your students to use.

Step 4- Enrolling Students: There are two methods for enrolling students. The “Enrolling with a Class Code Method” is often preferred because it gives the student’s control over what their username and password is. Students only have to create one account. The same log in will be used for both Math and Science and any other teacher who may be using ExploreLearning Gizmos.
Enrolling Students with a Class Code (preferred method)
Step 5- Use Gizmos with your students: The fun part is teaching with Gizmos! Each Gizmo has Lesson Materials that you can customize and make your own to meet your student needs. As you look at the standards you need to teach, you may see Gizmos that work well for whole group instruction where you are leading the class using only your computer and a projector, or small group instruction where each student is at a computer (or in small groups of 2-3) and they are working through the Gizmos. Here are examples of each:
